Goldenberg D, et al. - Experts investigated the risk for recalcitrant, symptomatic hypocalcemia after thyroidectomy in patients with prior gastric bypass surgery. Refractory hypocalcemia was underreported in this study population. Data recommended cautious consideration while performing staged thyroidectomy and, in some cases, during reversal of the bariatric surgery.
