Thyroidectomy in octogenarians is not associated with poorer postoperative outcomes
Head & Neck Mar 07, 2019
Wong EH, et al. - A sum of 39 elderly participants who underwent thyroidectomy over the age of 80 years were estimated to analyze the relationship between thyroidectomy in octogenarians and poorer postoperative outcomes. They recorded symptoms like shortness of breath, feeling of pressure in the neck, dysphagia, or tiredness among 40.1% of candidates and 5.1% were asymptomatic. They noticed minor attacks of low rates of postoperative complications. They did not find either intensive care unit admissions or any mortality. Hence, they preferred thyroid surgery in octogenarians as it carried an acceptable complication profile.
