Thyroid stimulating hormone and free triiodothyronine are valuable predictors for diabetic nephropathy in patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus
Annals of Translational Medicine Aug 14, 2018
Fei X, et al. - In the present study, researchers assessed the predictive ability of thyroid hormones for diabetic nephropathy (DN) by analyzing the data of 301 type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients. For this investigation, they measured thyroid hormones before treatment and the risk factors and their predictive ability for T2DM and DN were evaluated. Findings revealed that patients with DN showed lower levels of triiodothyronine (T3) and free triiodothyronine (FT3), but higher levels of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) than T2DM patients without complications. In patients with T2DM, TSH and FT3 were useful predictors for DN.
