Thymectomy in patients with myasthenia gravis increases the risk of autoimmune rheumatic diseases: A nationwide cohort study
Rheumatology Sep 08, 2018
Chang CC, et al. - Authors gauged whether or not there is an association between myasthenia gravis (MG) and autoimmune rheumatic diseases (ARDs). Participants were patients with MG (mean age 50.55 years) and age- and sex-matched controls. MG and incident ARDs were found to be related to each other in the present nationwide cohort study. An increased risk of RA, primary systemic scleroderma (pSS) and SLE was seen in the MG cohort who underwent thymectomy. In the MG cohort, the risk of total ARDs was 6.25 times higher than in the non-MG cohort, after adjustment for age and sex.
