Thrombocytopenia in high-risk patients with antiphospholipid syndrome
Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis Jan 11, 2018
Pontara E, et al. - In a large series of high-risk patients with antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), authors evaluated the prevalence of thrombocytopenia and assessed the behavior of platelet count during catastrophic APS (CAPS). Findings revealed a low prevalence of thrombocytopenia in these patients. All the patients who deteriorate into the catastrophic form of the disease showed a drop in platelet count. Thereby suggesting to consider a decrease in platelet count in high-risk APS patients as a warning signal for disease progression to CAPS.
