Three-year effectiveness and safety of the XEN gel stent as a solo procedure or in combination with phacoemulsification in open-angle glaucoma: A multicentre study
Acta Ophthalmologica May 25, 2021
Reitsamer H, Vera V, Ruben S, et al. - In this multicentre, non-interventional, observational, retrospective chart review, researchers sought to evaluate the 3-year efficacy and safety of the XEN gel stent implanted ab interno in open-angle glaucoma (OAG). Records of patients with OAG who had gel stent implantation between January 1, 2014, and October 1, 2015, in 9 European centres, were analyzed. Data from 174 consecutive patients (212 eyes with OAG) were obtained. When implanted using the traditional ab-interno technique, the gel stent effectively reduced intraocular pressure (IOP) and IOP-lowering medication count over 3 years, with a predictable and acceptable safety profile.
