Thirty-day readmissions after cardiac implantable electronic devices in the United States: Insights from the Nationwide Readmissions Database

Patel B, et al. - Predictors of 30-day readmission in patients admitted for cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) implantation were researched herein. Researchers identified several patient and hospital-related factors that independently predicted 30-day readmission, accounting for increased healthcare cost. Those predictors included female gender, acute renal failure, coronary artery disease, length of stay, device placement on the day of admission, and fourth quartile of hospital procedure volume.
