Thirty-day readmission rates for carotid endarterectomy vs carotid artery stenting
Journal of Surgical Research Jan 31, 2019
Hintze AJ, et al. - Researchers assessed rates and risk factors for 30-day readmission and hospital length of stay (LOS) following carotid endarterectomy (CEA) vs carotid artery stenting (CAS) using data from 15,966 patients treated for carotid artery stenosis with CEA (n = 13,557) or CAS (n = 2,409) from the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council. Outcomes revealed similar 30-day readmission rates among patients undergoing CEA or CAS. They noted a significant difference in LOS between CEA and CAS, but the scale of the difference was small.
