Thirty-day readmission among patients with non-variceal upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage and effects on outcomes
Gastroenterology Mar 31, 2018
Abougergi MS, et al. - The intention of the experts was to gauge the rate of hospital readmission within 30 days of non-variceal upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage (NVUGIH) along with its impact on mortality, morbidity and healthcare utilization in the United States. Findings reported that 13% patients were readmitted to the hospital within 30 days of discharge among subjects hospitalized for non-variceal upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage. A link was brought to light between readmission with higher mortality, morbidity, and resource utilization. It was discovered that most readmissions were not for recurrent gastrointestinal bleeding.
