Thermal ablation of thyroid nodules: Are radiofrequency ablation, microwave ablation and high intensity focused ultrasound equally safe and effective methods?
European Radiology Feb 20, 2018
Korkusuz Y, et al. - Researchers undertook a comparative analysis of the volume reduction of benign thyroid nodules 3 months after Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA), Microwave Ablation (MWA) or High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) with the intention of determining which of these methods was most effective and safe alternative to thyroidectomy or radioiodine therapy. Comparable results were illustrated by RFA, MWA and HIFU in terms of volume reduction. Hence, it was deduced that all methods were safe and effective for the treatment of benign thyroid nodules.
