Lim SG, et al. - Considering the possible utility of therapeutic vaccines as promising treatments for chronic hepatitis B (CHB), researchers investigated their clinical efficacy and safety via performing a systematic review of the evidence for efficacy and safety of therapeutic vaccines in CHB patients. Fifteen studies testing a wide variety of therapeutic vaccines were included. As per outcomes, therapeutic vaccines + standard of care was only efficacious in achieving HBV DNA reduction at end of follow up when compared with standard of care, otherwise, no efficacy of therapeutic vaccines is suggested for the treatment of CHB.
