The variable impact of positive lymph nodes in cervical cancer: Implications of the new FIGO staging system
Gynecologic Oncology Nov 23, 2019
McComas KN, Torgeson AM, Ager BJ, et al. - The National Cancer Database (NCDB) from 2004 to 2015 was investigated for individuals with cervical cancer, giving 115,819 people for the influence on survival of lymph node metastases (LNM). In 17,173 eligible people, LNM negatively influenced survival. The impact of IIIC2 was most proclaimed in T1B. The impact of LNM was considerably less in T3. Within T1B, no variation in survival for IIIC1 for the smaller T stages (IB1-2) was noted. In conclusion, in cervical cancer, LNM negatively influences prognosis. Moreover, the influence on survival differs by the T stage with the greatest impact seen in stage T1B with IIIC2 disease.
