The value of SPARCC sacroiliac MRI scoring in axial psoriatic arthritis and its association with other disease parameters
International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases Feb 01, 2022
In this study, the Canadian Spondyloarthritis Research Consortium (SPARCC) sacroiliac joint (SIJ) scores are used to assess patients with axial psoriatic arthritis (AxPsA) and the correlations between magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scores and disease characteristics are determined.
Researchers performed retrospective evaluation of 40 PsA patients (32 females, mean age 46.4 years) who had been documented to have active or structural lesions on SIJ MRI.
The mean duration of the disease was 51.4 ± 70.4 months.
As per MRI findings, 30 patients (75%) had active inflammation and 32 patients (92.5%) had at least 1 structural lesion.
Findings suggest that despite no severe radiologic involvement in most AxPsA, additional information about inflammatory activity and structural lesions is gained using MRI.
CRP is suggested as possibly valuable in monitoring the radiologic disease activity in AxPsA.
