The value of prognostic nutritional index in follicular lymphoma
American Journal of Clinical Oncology Jan 30, 2019
Lee SF, et al. - Researchers investigated the prognostic value of the prognostic nutritional index (PNI) at diagnosis in follicular lymphoma (FL) by reviewing FL patients in Tuen Mun Hospital, Hong Kong from 2000 to 2014 (n=88). They calculated PNI by serum albumin (g/L)+5×absolute lymphocyte count (109/L). The best cut-off value for PNI was determined to be 45. They identified higher PNI at relapse as a continuous variable to be linked with better postprogression survival. Findings suggest high PNI at diagnosis predicts superior progression-free survival, supporting the value of this cheap and widely available biomarker.
