The value of MRI examination on bilateral hands including proximal interphalangeal joints for disease assessment in patients with early rheumatoid arthritis: A cross-sectional cohort study
Arthritis Research & Therapy Dec 19, 2019
Mo YQ, Yang ZH, Wang JW, et al. - Individuals with active early RA received 3.0T whole-body MRI examination with contrast-enhanced imaging on bilateral wrists, metacarpophalangeal joints, and proximal interphalangeal joints (PIPJs) in order to show the benefits of MRI examination on bilateral hands including PIPJs for disease evaluation in early RA individuals. This study was the first reporting the variation of MRI peculiarities between dominant and non-dominant hands and MRI characteristics in PIPJs and their concordance with physical examination in people with early RA. MRI examination on bilateral hands including PIPJs was deserved, relative to asymmetric MRI characteristics in early RA, possible overuse impact for specific tenosynovitis in dominant hands, and high predominance of MRI findings in PIPJs.
