The value of lactate clearance in admission decisions of patients with acute exacerbation of COPD

Durmus U, et al. - This study was performed to assess the value of sixth hour lactate clearance in patients who were hospitalized with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exacerbations. Researchers observed that in these patients lactate clearance can be evaluated as a useful marker. In the Emergency Department (ED), lactate monitoring in addition to Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) guidelines had clinical benefit when deciding whether to discharge or hospitalize a patient.
