The value of histological grading of biopsy and resection specimens in early stage oral squamous cell carcinomas
Journal of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery Apr 18, 2018
Dik EA, et al. - Experts ascertained the association between differentiation grade of the biopsy and the resection specimen in early-stage oral squamous cell carcinomas. They also sought to correlate tumor differentiation grade with nodal stage and survival. In early OSCC, for the grading of the resection specimen, the differentiation grade determined by biopsy was of little predictive value. Findings demonstrated no association between poor differentiation grade and the presence of nodal metastasis or survival and seemed not to have any prognostic value concerning the outcome. Authors suggested that the treatment planning ought to be related to these findings.
