The value of cervical node features in predicting long-term survival of nasopharyngeal carcinoma in the intensity-modulated radiotherapy era
Cancer Management and Research Jun 23, 2021
Tian YM, Zeng L, Lan YH, et al. - In the present study, the researchers sought to examine the prognostic value of cervical node features in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) treated with intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and build a prognostic nomogram to anticipate long-term survival. Between 2008 and 2011, 1,752 patients after IMRT were selected. The clinical and laboratory characteristics and the nodal features including the nodal number, maximum dimension diameter, extranodal extension (ENE), and cervical node necrosis (CNN) have been retrospectively analyzed. Data reported that the 10-year distant metastases-free survival and disease-specific survival rates were 86.5% and 80.8%, respectively. The nodal features, which included ENE and CNN, were negative prognostic factors for NPC, and the prognostic nomogram that included the nodal features was more accurate in anticipating survival than the nomogram that did not include the nodal features.
