The use of liposomal bupivacaine administered with standard bupivacaine in ankle fractures requiring open reduction internal fixation: A single-blinded randomized controlled trial
Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma Aug 09, 2017
Davidovitch R, et al. – In a study population of patients undergoing operative fixation of ankle fractures, researchers assessed the efficacy of liposomal bupivacaine versus placebo for postoperative pain control. Findings demonstrated that in cases of ankle fractures requiring Open Reduction Internal Fixation (ORIF), local intraoperative infiltration of liposomal bupivacaine administered with standard bupivacaine resulted in improved pain relief in the immediate postoperative period and hence, attenuation in Percocet ingestion, with resultant impacts visible up to 2 days postoperatively.
