The use of dry needling vs corticosteroid injection to treat lateral epicondylitis: A prospective, randomized, controlled study
Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Sep 21, 2020
Uygur E, et al. - For managing the pain associated with lateral epicondylitis (LE), corticosteroid (CS) injections and dry needling (DN) are utilized options. Researchers here compared the the two treatments in terms of the pain relief afforded and improvements in functional disability. They randomized a total of 108 LE patients whose pain was not relieved by 3 weeks of first-line treatment into DN or CS groups (54 patients each). Outcomes revealed achievement of significant improvements during the 6 months of follow-up with both DN and CS injection. However, DN was identified to be more effective then CS injection.
