The use of acute normovolemic hemodilution in paediatric cardiac surgery
Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica Jun 12, 2018
Crescini WM, et al. - In this single-centre retrospective cohort study, researchers examined the link between acute normovolemic hemodilution (ANH) and the intraoperative use of allogeneic blood products in paediatric patients between 0 and 36 months of age undergoing surgical repair or palliation of their cardiac defect with the use of cardiopulmonary bypass between November 2013 and November 2014. In this patient population, the use of ANH was found to be associated with a reduction in the administration of blood products and lower postoperative blood losses and, hence, for such a patient population, using ANH might be beneficial in attenuating perioperative morbidity.
