The type 2 diabetes-specific dementia risk score (DSDRS) is associated with frailty, cognitive and functional status amongst Mexican community-dwelling older adults
BMC Geriatrics Sep 29, 2020
Bello-Chavolla OY, et al. - Researchers conducted a cross-sectional study to explore the correlations of diabetes-specific dementia risk score (DSDRS) with frailty, disability, quality of life (QoL) and cognition in community-dwelling older adults with type 2 diabetes (T2D). The sample consisted of 257 community-dwelling older adults with T2D, mean age was 78.0 ± 6.2 years. High-estimated 10-year dementia risk was correlated with activities of daily life and instrumented activities of daily life disability, frailty and risk of malnutrition. Frailty, disability, risk of malnutrition, lower cognitive performance and impaired QoL are associated with DSDRS. Such results support the significant burden of T2D-related factors on functional status, QoL, disability and risk of dementia.
