The triglyceride-glucose index is associated with the severity of hepatic steatosis and the presence of liver fibrosis in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease: A cross-sectional study in chinese adults

Lipids in Health and Disease Oct 13, 2020

Guo W, Lu J, Qin P, et al. - A cross-sectional study in Chinese adults was conducted to evaluate whether the triglyceride-glucose index is correlated with the severity of hepatic steatosis and the presence of liver fibrosis in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Researchers included 4,784 patients who had ultrasonography done. They evaluated anthropometric and biochemical measurements. Individuals with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) were detected by ultrasound. They assessed the degree of hepatic steatosis and liver stiffness with transient elastography. It was reported that, in NAFLD, the TyG index is positively associated to the severity of hepatic steatosis and the presence of liver fibrosis. The data indicate that the index also conducted better than the homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance.
