The subsequent course of disability in older persons discharged to a skilled nursing facility after an acute hospitalization
Experimental Gerontology Aug 24, 2017
Liu Z, et al. – This study assessed the link between the type of acute hospitalization and subsequent course of disability in older persons discharged to a skilled nursing facility (SNF). In these subjects, a generally poor functional course was reported over 6 months. Only one out of every four cases exhibited recovery to pre–hospital function. Findings demonstrated that functional outcomes were worse for non–elective major surgery, critical illness, and other hospitalizations as compared with elective major surgery.
