The Sonic Hedgehog signaling pathway regulates autophagy and migration in ovarian cancer
Cancer Medicine Jun 06, 2021
Pan Y, Zhou J, Zhang W, et al. - To gain understanding of the function of the Sonic Hedgehog (SHH) signaling pathway as well as its underlying mechanism in ovarian cancer, this study was undertaken. Borderline ovarian tumor tissues, epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) tissues and benign ovarian tumor tissues were analyzed for ascertaining the expressions of SHH and SQSTM1. In epithelial ovarian cancer, SHH was upregulated and SQSTM1/P62 was accumulated. Via the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway, autophagy was induced by Cyclopamine (Cyp). Significant promotion of the migratory ability of SKOV3 cells was brought about by low-dose Cyp and chloroquine. In the light of these observations, experts inferred that a potential and effective therapy for ovarian cancer treatment may involve inhibition of the SHH pathway and autophagy.
