The significance of bicuspid aortic valve after surgery for acute type A aortic dissection
The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Apr 25, 2019
Mennander A, et al. - Using data from 1122 patients undergoing acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD) surgery collected from eight participating Nordic centers, researchers examined the outcome after ATAAD surgery in relation to the presence of bicuspid aortic valve (BAV), acute aortic regurgitation (AR), and surgical approach. A comparison regarding early complications, reoperations and survival was done between patients with BAV and tricuspid aortic valves (TAV) before and after propensity score matching for sex, age, AR, organ malperfusion, hemodynamic instability, and site of the tear. Outcomes revealed no significant differences between patients with BAV and TAV in terms of early and mid-term survival.
