The significance of bicuspid aortic valve after surgery for acute type A aortic dissection
The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Mar 27, 2019
Mennander A, et al. - Researchers examined outcome after acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD) surgery in relation to the presence of bicuspid aortic valve (BAV), acute aortic regurgitation (AR) and surgical approach, using data of 1,122 ATAAD surgery patients from 8 participating Nordic centers, in order to test their hypothesis that BAV does not impact the outcome following surgery for ATAAD. Among 65 (5.8%) patients who had BAV, root replacement was more frequently performed as compared to the TAV (tricuspid aortic valve)-group (60% vs 23%). The BAV and TAV patients exhibited no significant differences in early and mid-term survival outcomes.
