The safety profile and effectiveness of propofol‐remifentanil mixtures for total intravenous anesthesia in children
Paediatric Anaesthesia Oct 11, 2020
Bagshaw O, McCormack J, Brooks P, et al. - Researchers evaluated the safety profile as well as the effectiveness of propofol‐remifentanil mixtures in children receiving a variety of surgical procedures. Meaningful data from 873 patients were submitted by pediatric Anesthetists in the UK and Ireland who regularly used propofol‐remifentanil mixtures for total intravenous anesthesia. Findings showed that the use of mixtures of propofol and remifentanil ensured effective anesthesia delivery in pediatric patients receiving a wide range of procedures. A low incidence of serious, related, unexpected adverse events necessitating intervention was reported, and such events were largely attributable to predictable impacts of the drugs being administered. Proportionately less complications occurred in relation to a ≤ 5 μg mL−1 remifentanil concentration.
