The role of surgery in treating nasal obstruction to control asthma
Journal of Asthma and Allergy Nov 18, 2020
Wu PW, Lee TJ, Wang CH, et al. - Researchers assessed asthma-specific results in patients suffering from chronic rhinitis (CR) and asthma post-surgery for nasal obstruction, as well as they investigated the patient group most likely to have improved asthma control post-surgery. This analysis involved 28 participants. Both at the preoperative and 3-month postoperative examinations, a significant link was identified between the Asthma Control Test and the Sino-Nasal Outcome Test-22 scores. Among asthmatic patients with CR and nasal obstruction, a close correlation of nasal symptom severity with the extent of asthma control was revealed. In the light of these data, evaluation of CR and nasal obstruction among patients experiencing poorly controlled asthma should be regarded as an important approach to improve the response to therapy and patients’ quality of life.
