The role of semiquantitative evaluation of lympho-vascular space invasion in early stage cervical cancer patients
Gynecologic Oncology Jun 12, 2021
Ronsini R, Anchora LP, Restaino S, et al. - Researchers conducted a retrospective study enrolling patients undergoing surgical treatment for early cervical cancer with the aim to examine the performances of a semi-quantitative evaluation of lymph vascular space involvement (LVSI) in terms of patient risk assessment. Findings revealed correlation of diffuse LVSI with the risk of lymph node metastasis, and parametrial involvement. Diffuse LVSI group more frequently had lymph nodal recurrences and so distant recurrences. A worse disease-free survival (DFS) was recorded among patients with diffuse LVSI vs patients with focal or absent involvement. Overall findings support the utility of semi-quantitative evaluation of LVSI for identifying risk patients for shorter disease-free survival and lymphatic and distant recurrences in patients with early stage.
