The role of psychosocial risk factors in the burden of headache
Journal of Pain Research May 31, 2019
Malmberg-Ceder K, et al. - For the first time, the influence of several psychosocial risk factors on the headache impact test-6 (HIT-6) was evaluated in this work. In the study population (469 Finnish female employees reporting headache during the past year), researchers assessed psychosocial risk factors using validated, self-administered questionnaires: the generalized anxiety disorder 7-item scale for anxiety, the major depression inventory for depressive symptoms, the ENRICHD short social support instrument for social isolation, the cynical distrust scale for hostility and the Bergen burnout indicator for work stress. Outcomes revealed weak, but statistically significant correlations between the total HIT-6 score and all measured psychosocial risk factors except for hostility. As per findings, with good construct validity, the HIT-6 questionnaire describes the impact of headache, reliably and independently, without the interference of psychosocial factors in general working-aged female population.
