The role of posttraumatic stress symptoms on chronic pain outcomes in chronic pain patients referred to rehabilitation
Journal of Pain Research Mar 20, 2018
Ravn SL, et al. - Chronic pain patients not exposed to a trauma, patients exposed to a trauma with no posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS), and patients exposed to a trauma with PTSS were investigated for differences in pain intensity, pain-related disability, and psychological distress. In addition, researchers investigated the moderating effects of PTSS on the associations between pain intensity and pain-related disability and psychological distress. In this work, significantly higher levels of pain intensity, pain-related disability, depression, and anxiety were reported by the chronic pain patients with PTSS. Furthermore, PTSS was observed significantly moderating the associations between pain intensity and pain-related psychosocial disability, depression, and anxiety. Findings thereby underscored the significance of assessing PTSS in chronic pain patients.
