The role of non-invasive modalities for assessing inflammation in patients with non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis
Cytokine Nov 05, 2017
Tsikrika S, et al. - This study was performed on patients with non-cystic fibrosis (non-CF) bronchiectasis to determine the links between induced sputum and clinical/radiologic features, and the differences between biomarkers expressing Th1 and Th2 response. Researchers also compared the findings with a previously studied population of patients with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Findings suggested a possible role of sputum cell counts, interleukin (IL)-8 and IL-13 for non-invasive evaluation of inflammation in this group of patients as these markers displayed a correlation with distinct clinical and functional measurements of disease severity.
