The role of JAK inhibitors in the treatment of alopecia areata: A systematic review
Dermatologic Therapy Aug 09, 2019
de Oliveira AB, et al. - Since alopecia areata (AA) is non-scarring alopecia that often has a significant effect on the quality of life of patients, researchers identified the role of JAK inhibitors (JAKis) in the treatment of AA and discussed current evidence on the effectiveness and safety of its use. According to this systematic review, several clinical studies have demonstrated very promising outcomes in JAKis oral formula therapy for AA. However, in order to maintain response, these agents need chronic administration. These agents' safety profile seems to be favourable. Current proof for the effectiveness and safety of oral JAKis is promising. The information acquired, however, are of low quality, mainly from clinical case reports. In order to verify this information and optimize its long-term effectiveness and safety, further studies are required.
