The role of explorative tympanotomy in patients with sudden sensorineural hearing loss with and without perilymphatic fistula
American Journal of Otolaryngology Oct 13, 2017
Prenzler NK, et al. - This analysis elucidated the role of explorative tympanotomy in patients with a profound sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) without clinical evidence of perilymphatic or labyrinthine fistula. It also contrasted the intraoperative findings with the postoperative hearing outcome. This procedure appeared to be beneficial for patients with profound SSNHL. A greater benefit could be gained from the surgical procedure in the case of patients having perilymphatic fistula (PLF). They reported better outcomes than patients without PLF.
