The role of double modality ultrasonographic and fluoroscopic guided superior hypogastric plexus neurolysis in treating intractable pelvic cancer pain: A comparative study
Journal of Pain Research Jun 01, 2021
Abdelghafar EM, Othman AH, Soliman MS, et al. - In order to block visceral pelvic pain, superior hypogastric neurolytic block is performed. This could be carried out through the anterior approach guided by CT or ultrasound and through a posterior approach, guided by fluoroscopy or CT. They assessed 60 adult patients with severe visceral pelvic pain (VAS > 70 mm) randomly assigned to undergo either of the procedures. Outcomes suggest superiority of the anterior ultrasound guided superior hypogastric plexus block aided by fluoroscopy to the standard fluoroscopic guided technique in relieving pelvic cancer pain and decreasing morphine consumption.
