The role of clips in preventing delayed bleeding after colorectal polyp resection: An individual patient data meta-analysis
Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology May 16, 2021
Turan AS, Pohl H, Matsumoto M, et al. - Researchers conducted this individual patient data meta-analysis to determine whether prophylactic clipping reduces delayed bleedings and to analyze the contribution of polyp characteristics, the extent of defect closure and antithrombotic use. Data from three RCT’s, two prospective studies, and eight retrospective studies were used to include 5,380 patients with 8,948 resected polyps. Prophylactic clipping decreases delayed bleeding after resection of non-pedunculated, proximal colorectal polyps ≥ 20 mm, particularly in patients taking antithrombotics. There was no benefit found for distal polyps. Based on the findings of this study, patients who may benefit from prophylactic clipping can be identified.
