The role of axillary reverse mapping in intraoperative nodal palpation during sentinel lymph node biopsy
The Breast Journal Jun 17, 2021
Noguchi M, Morioka E, Noguchi M, et al. - This study was intended to evaluate whether axillary reverse mapping is helpful to select suspicious palpable sentinel lymph nodes more accurately. Researchers enrolled patients with clinically negative nodes who had undergone sentinel lymph node biopsy with intraoperative nodal palpation and axillary reverse mapping. Researchers removed palpable sentinel lymph nodes and para-sentinel lymph nodes in 130 (15%) of 850 patients with clinically negative nodes. The findings revealed that axillary reverse mapping is helpful to avoid an unnecessary removal of palpable nodes without metastases.
