The role of autonomy-supportive parenting in the competence, adherence and glycemic control of adolescents with type 1 diabetes
Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice Feb 03, 2021
Perlberg M, Katz I, Loewenthal N, et al. - In the present study, the researchers sought to explore the connections between autonomy support provided to adolescents with type 1 diabetes by their parents, and adolescents' competence, adherence to treatment, and glycemic control indicators. Thirty-seven adolescents completed a set of questionnaires with one of their parents on the level of autonomy support offered by their parents. Support for parental autonomy is important and can lead to the competence, adherence, and physical well-being of adolescents with type 1 diabetes. Parents should be educated on ways to better support autonomy but still be involved in their child's life.
