The risks of postoperative complications and prolonged hospital stay in children receiving bronchoscopy
Journal of Pediatric Surgery Jun 09, 2019
Li P, et al. - Researchers reported and analyzed their experience in the removal of airway foreign body primarily through flexible bronchoscopy in order to compare children receiving either flexible or rigid bronchoscopy regarding risk factors associated with adverse events. They retrospectively examined a total of 3489 foreign body aspiration patients and identified generally low adverse events incidence in correlation to using flexible bronchoscopy to extract foreign bodies. Children with pre-operative pulmonary disease, prolonged operative time, and history of ineffective rigid bronchoscopy may exhibit significantly higher risk of postoperative complications and prolonged hospital stay.
