The risks of cancer development in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Arthritis Research & Therapy Dec 10, 2018
Song L, et al. - Authors evaluated the correlation between systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and the risks of 24 cancer types. This systematic review and meta-analysis included 24 eligible studies, which were identified through an online search of PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases. Upon analysis, the investigators noted an association of SLE with increased risk for 16 involved cancers and decreased risk for prostate cancer and cutaneous melanoma. Epidemiological findings from this study support the associations of SLE with cancer risk. Public policies could be informed based on this evidence, which could help guide personalized medicine to better manage SLE and reduce associated cancer morbidity and mortality.
