The risk stratification of adverse neonatal outcomes in women with gestational diabetes (STRONG) study
Acta Diabetologica Sep 20, 2018
Pintaudi B, et al. - In this observational, retrospective, multicenter study, researchers evaluated the risk of adverse neonatal outcomes in women with gestational diabetes by identifying subgroups of women at higher risk to recognize the characteristics most related to an excess of risk. Findings suggested an association between the occurrence of the cumulative adverse outcome, large for gestational age, fetal malformation, and respiratory distress with previous macrosomia. Researchers also found that large for gestational age was correlated with obesity, whereas small for gestational age was related to first-trimester glucose levels. In addition, neonatal hypoglycemia was linked to overweight and obesity. Results of this study indicated that extraordinary consideration must be made to the prevention and treatment of obesity.
