The risk of Takotsubo cardiomyopathy in acute neurological disease
Neurocritical Care Aug 15, 2018
Morris NA, et al. - In this cross-sectional study, researchers examined the relative links between various neurological diseases and Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TCM) in all adults in the National Inpatient Sample, a nationally representative sample of US hospitalizations, from 2006 to 2014. They observed TCM was most strongly related to subarachnoid hemorrhage, status epilepticus, and seizures. A strong association with female sex was also observed. Moreover, a sensitivity analysis revealed associations with transient global amnesia, meningoencephalitis, migraine, intracerebral hemorrhage, and ischemic stroke. Overall, they concluded that, TCM appeared to be related to varying degrees with several acute neurological diseases besides subarachnoid hemorrhage.
