The risk of Parkinson’s disease in inflammatory bowel disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Zhu F, et al. - Researchers conducted this systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the risk of Parkinson’s disease (PD) in people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The main outcome of interest was the incidence PD development in patients with a previous diagnosis of IBD. Findings revealed that the overall risk of PD in IBD was significantly higher vs control participants. Compared to control participants, Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) had a 28% and 30% increased risk of PD, respectively.
