The risk of malignancy in uterine polyps: A systematic review and meta-analysis
European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology May 26, 2019
Uglietti A, et al. - Researchers sought to determine the prevalence of premalignant and malignant lesions in women undergoing hysteroscopic polypectomy via conducting a systematic review and a meta-analysis of a total of 51 studies reporting data on 35,345 women. With very high heterogeneity, they noted malignant polyp prevalence of 2.73% among studies. Lower rates for premenopausal women (1.12%) vs post-menopausal ones (4.93%) were reported. The risk of malignancy was higher in correlation to symptomatic vaginal bleeding and postmenopausal status in women with endometrial polyps.
