The risk of ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke in Chinese adults with low-density lipoprotein cholesterol concentrations < 70 mg/dL
BMC Medicine Jun 21, 2021
Wu Z, Huang Z, Lichtenstein AH, et al. - Through analyzing data from two independent ongoing cohorts (Kailuan I study and Kailuan II study), researchers sought to prioritize predictive risk factors for stroke in Chinese candidates with low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) concentrations < 70 mg/dL utilizing a survival conditional inference tree, a machine learning method. The sample consisted of 9,327 participants in the training dataset and 1,753 participants in the validation dataset. Very low LDL-C concentrations, combined with poorly controlled blood pressure and older age, significantly predicted the occurrence of ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke in a Chinese population with LDL-C concentrations < 70 mg/dL.
