The risk of Helicobacter pylori infection for adverse pregnancy outcomes: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Helicobacter Jan 26, 2019
Zhan Y, et al. - Using PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and Web of science databases through November 17, 2018, researchers conducted a systematic literature search for relevant publications to assess the current evidence concerning if Helicobacter pylori infection during pregnancy effects adverse pregnancy outcomes. In this analysis, they identified 31 studies with a total of 22,845 participants. Findings suggested a significant association of H pylori infection with preeclampsia, fetal growth restriction, gestational diabetes mellitus, spontaneous abortion, and birth defect. A significant connection between H pylori infection and low birthweight was seen via sensitivity analysis. This meta-analysis shows that H pylori infection during pregnancy can increase the risk of adverse pregnancy results. The screening and treatment of H pylori infection should be taken into account prior to pregnancy.
