The risk of developing squamous cell carcinoma in patients with anogenital lichen sclerosis: A systematic review
Gynecologic Oncology Feb 26, 2020
Spekreijse JJ, et al. - Researchers assessed the absolute risk (AR) as well as incidence rate of developing squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) among patients with anogenital lichen sclerosis (LS), via this systematic review. They also explored patient features that impact the risk of developing LS related SCC. They searched databases of Pubmed and Embase and identified relevant articles. Overall 15 studies were eligible for evaluation. They gained fair evidence that in patients with anogenital LS, the AR of developing SCC differed between 0.21 and 3.88% for women and 0.00–0.91% for men. Thus, regular follow up and compliant treatment with topical corticosteroids, particularly in older women, was advised by the experts.
