The risk of delirium and falls or fractures with the use of overactive bladder anticholinergic medications
Neurourology and Urodynamics Nov 04, 2021
Welk B, Etaby K, McArthur E, et al. - Risk of delirium or falls/fractures was investigated in correlation with OAB anticholinergics vs OAB beta-3 agonist medications.
Using linked administrative data from the universal healthcare system of Ontario, Canada, researchers conducted a retrospective, cohort study including 103,024 older adults who initiated OAB medications.
Findings suggest that in comparison to beta-3 agonists, the continuous use of oxybutynin is linked with a significantly elevated risk of fall/fracture, and newer OAB anticholinergics are linked with a significantly raised risk of delirium.
