The risk of chronic kidney disease in relation to anthropometric measures of obesity: A Swedish cohort study
BMC Nephrology Oct 09, 2021
Memarian E, Nilsson PM, Zia I, et al. - Findings lend support to the strong evidence for a relationship between obesity and chronic kidney disease (CKD).
This large prospective study included 26,723 individuals, 45-73 years old at baseline.
All anthropometric measures of obesity were related to a substantially elevated incidence of CKD, except for percentage of body fat (BF%) in males.
Slightly greater predictive ability for CKD risk was offered by some measures than others such as body mass index and weight in men and BF% in women.
Employment of all anthropometric measures of obesity in clinical daily practice might be equally beneficial to evaluate the risk of developing CKD.
